2025 Competition – Workers Wanted
Opened in 1926, Lady Dorothy Haig created a factory that would go on to employ hundreds of disabled veterans. The factory provided an opportunity for men who returned from WW1 and WW2 to earn a wage at a time when the country was ill prepared to meet the needs of veterans suffering from life changing injuries and PTSD.
The factory produced poppies, toys, lamps and a number of other goods for many years which allowed men with skills in carpentry, artistry and leather work to be able to continue with trades they were employed in previously.
Apply to work at Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory. Learners will need to tell us about their life before service, their time in service and why they would be a good employee in the factory.
